thought crime 2021

Thought Crime presents as a police investigation board, featuring a series of chaotic black-and-white paintings that visually interpret the process of piecing together fragmented and traumatic memories. Inspired by Dan Estabrook’s Night and Day series and William Kentridge’s expressive charcoal drawings, the project captures the tension and confusion of reconstructing events that are emotionally charged or difficult to recall. The red thread connecting each painting represents a train of thought—a fragile link between moments that are disjointed, uncertain, or obscured. Each painting serves as a visual “memory snippet,” reflecting how recollections often appear incomplete, overlapping, or distorted by emotion. Through its composition and materiality, Thought Crime embodies the psychological struggle of memory reconstruction, revealing the blurred boundary between truth, perception, and the mind’s attempt to make sense of chaos.
